Getting to move from Maplewoods CG to Lake Anna SP in Virgina. Two stops on the way.

Well we didn't make far, after treatment, issues

More later.

It's later. The tech find a plug or more loose. Remounted and resupported the cableing. Road test ok headed on our way. We are dry camping at a fuel stop.

Reprogram (update)

The Navistar engineer did a reflash of the ecm. We did a road test and it is good however the engineer wants us to do a longer road test with the computer logging the ecm data.

I'll update this post after the today test.

Actually I'll make a blog post rather than update.

Is it the day? (Update)

I'm posting this on my phone and may make changes when I fire up the computer.

All the parts are installed, DPF, DOC, doser valve, ... , Today they move to another bay, do a Regen and have the Navistar engineer(s) clear the computer, ecm, and reprogram it. Next will be road test(s). When every thing checks out we will, depending on time, hit the road to Maplewoods CG in North Hyde Park VT.

Either way we plan to sleep in our own bed for the first time in a month or so.

Update.
Something doesn't look right  from there computer point. They have run more tests and sent them to the factory engineer. The feedback I have is that there is a "bug" in the program. The engineer will log in and reprogram.

We will spend the night in the coach and plan to leave sometime tomorrow.

Here we go again

First the bad news.
We will here, in Plattsbugh NY at least another day since the parts shipment did not arrive as expected. Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. They are tracking the shipment and doing there best to get the items here.

The good news.
Even we expected that things are covered by Warranty they did confirm that this morning, over $5k in parts. So basically we have a rebuilt engine and new the $5k+ of after treatment parts. To bad it took so many years to get the aftetreatment fixed.

We spent most of the weekend visiting sites in the area. One is the 1812 war museum where we had a private tour of the museum and detailed discussion from the Phd volunteer.  The thing we learned is that Plattsburgh was the main objective of the war, the fighting in DC, Baltimore, New Orleans and Sackets Harbor were diversion attacks to draw forces away from the main objective here at Plattsburgh.  Why you ask? The British wanted Lake Champlain, the water highway, to control the eastern seaboard. If they had succeeded we would be Canadians.

We also visited Transportation Museum. Again a private, well almost, tour. We met another couple from Culpeper VA. Although we didn't know them we did have a nice visit. As transportation museums go this was small but quite informative. Many of the vehicles we saw were new to us among a Lozier touring car, home built electric car, 1911 Kissel racer. We were allowed to sit it the unique car. Yes I sat in it.

More pictures that Suzette took.

A few pictures that I took.

It just couldn't last

Running good until it doesn't. We made a rest stop and shortly the MIL malfunction light came on. The engine deratted and we pulled off at I87 NY High Peaks rest area. Made calls to Stadium and Clark's International  delears. Suggested that we try to get to Clark's since all other guage read good and there was no smoke. About 30 miles later Stop Engine light came on with severe derate. Pulled over, called for the hook. That's another story.
Tuesday night, 7/3/2018, so no help until Thursday.
Thursday, DPF looks fine, engine computer says good to go but technician doesn't believe it's not. Talking Navistar engineers and others to determine the next steps.

It runs.

Got the word today that the 2nd road test is fine. We assembled the closet, got everything ready to go. Hit the road in the morning. I'll update this post with more later.

It's later.
Suzette did some cleaning and arranging of things as well as help me get the closet back together. I decided to turn on the GPS as well as the tire monitor pressure system, TPMS. I got the welcome beep that notifies that it is running. No problem. Oops, this beep meant someting is wrong. 28psi. must be a Jeep tire. No it was the curb side outside dual. Oh crap, we don't need this drama. I asked the shop about reinflating. One of the folks said move it over by that bay and I will add it for you. While we were inflating the tire we had a minute to discuss the issue. He said mose problems are with the extensions.  I said I don't here any air leak, he felt the schrader valve on the TPMS. I pulled the TPMS sensor off while he continued adding  air to the coach tire.
I put some fluid on the schrader and put the sensor on a Jeep tire, big bubble. schrader valve is bad. I'll contact Truck Syste Technology, TST, about replacement schrader valves/seals.  For now I will use my trusty pressure gauge.

Since we had the coach in driving mode we decided to go to the local Loves. Now I remember why I don't go there with the coach. I had to go in and prepay since I don't have their special card.  I like to go the truck islands since they have the big nozzels for faster fillups.

Gear head,
I have a 3 page print out of what they did. Several of the terms don't make sense but they resleved all 6 cylinders, replaced/repaired the DPF system, replaced at least 1 injector, new engine head, new turbo, EGR cooler, and various other items. Basically a new engine.

Our out the door cost, $420. Most of that was for the reinstall of the drive shaft.

So if you are in the Burlington NY area and need service I suggest Stadium International Trucks on Conklin Rd.

What happened to our engine?

Well I received a call that our engine was back together and has a good test drive. Another test drive is going to be done to insure there are no loose ends. We expect to be able to pickup the coach on Monday 7/2. Waiting for a call back about the next test drive.
Ok what went wrong? One valve seat dropped and that took out the after treatment, DPF - Diesel Particulate Filter, both turbos, cracked atleast 1 cylinder sleeve and other stuff. I was told that the EGR cooler was replaced, all cylinder sleeves and a lot of other items with updated parts. Apparently there were several parts in the initial build that they found did not uphold well, I don't have the specifics, and those parts were repllaced with new improved parts.
That's all I know now.

Jeep

Off early today to get windshield replaced. I expected to wait for the job to take 2 hours. After an hour or was told the job was done. What happened to the 1 hour cure time for the sealant? New fast sealing sealant. Just wait a day before washing the Jeep. Don't use pressure when walking. Not to worry, it's raining.

Just a short post to see feed burner is working. Also if you are subscribed for eMail let me know.
I have been feeling better with writing, I get most of the words and thought like they should.
It is easier to use the computer rather than my phone.

Have a good day.

What else?

Damn stones. Now we have a cracked windshield in the Jeep. We have driven a lot of miles, over 60k since we've owned it. Many behind the coach including road construction season  on our trip to Alaska.

Called insurance and will call the glass shop tomorrow.

Watch what you delete

Since my laptop was running slowly I thought I would delete I would delete some files I didn't think I needed. Bad thought.

When I shutdown and restarted I had no OS, Windows 10. None of the recovery options would work. So I bought a terabyte external drive copied c:/users/Larry files ( no backslash on my phone keyboard) using xcopy. Took a while. Reloaded win 10 and spent time getting things back to where I can use it.

I bought 16gig of RAM and installed it. Since this is an older laptop I may change the HD with an SDD because I expect the HD will fail eventually.  Besides an SDD will be faster than an HD.

Waiting waiting ...

Well this is serious issue. We were told that the engine" lost" a cylinder so they needed to tear into the engine. Took the rear end of the coach apart so they can get to the engine.

Waiting for details.

Two to three weeks to basically rebuild the engine. Valve and cylinder issues. Since we are 300+- miles away I don't have detailed knowledge of the failure mode.

Back at Lake Anna

We got an early start and arrived here about 2:30. Traffic was no problem, 1 fuel stop in our 340+ trip and we averaged 8.1 +/- based on the engine computer.

A little update

We left FL late April and arrived at Lake Anna SP to begin our month of camp hosting. It was nice to reconnect with our Virgina friends.

We found that last to return to FL to take care of our coach registration, driver license, etc. We stayed at Starke KOA.

That done we are on our way to VT.

I am near:
1337-1599 East Campground Road, Florence, South Carolina 29501 (Florence County)
