Camping Day 52

Holliday Lake and Appomattox
Tuesday August 7, 2007

After breakfast we headed for the town of Appomattox ( Appomattox Station) and the visitors center there. It was a small museum in an old train station. There we watched another video about the area and learned that the bridge we crossed over on US60 contained elements of the Union and Confederate flags. Can you see them in the picture below?

Elements of the Union and Confederate flags are in this Appomattox river bridge

Then off to a grocery store for a few things. Since they had fresh local corn we bought a few ears for tonights dinner.

On our return to Holliday Lake we stopped at several historical markers along the road to complete our history lessons.

Then it was swim and kayak. During yesterday's kayak adventure we found 2 beach balls on the shore across from the swim beach. I was able to retrieve one then and decided to return today and get the other one. Success.

After dinner we watched a little TV before going over to Bywaters RV for S'mores.

We had talked to the camp host while she was at the dump station, no sewer hook up for the camp host, and she said it was a weekly chore for her but she didn't mind. She also told us there was a new RV camping area in the plan and that monies had been approved for the construction of the new shower house. No idea when the new camp area would be completed.

All of the pictures that we took on this trip can be found here.
