Another of those out of the way small mom and pop campgrounds. PA discount for 2 of our three nights there. The owners are very nice and our site was decent enough. Every evening they had a campfire circle and you didn't have to bring your own chair. Several workers were staying there. A few years ago there was a 6.0 earthquake and some new gold veins opened up so the workers were preparing the mine sites and doing core samples.
Wells is on old town and in its day was quite the place. It is on the California trail and was a real wild west town. They have a nice but small museum where we learned that the Mormons had developed an odometer for their wagons.
This area, as well as others, have a lot of ghost towns. The one nearest Wells is Metropolis which we went to find after a tour south on US93 to see hole in the mountain. We couldn't see the hole from our vantage point near the Clover Valley Cemetery.
We then turned north on 93 and after a while decided to try and find Metropolis. I didn't stop to get another map/directions figuring we could follow the signs we saw in town. I couldn't and we drove for miles and miles on desolate dirt roads. However we did see the largest herd of Pronghorn yet.
