Flood Damage Control

Tuesday, July 24

Well it was a good thing we bought clogs, croc's, at LL Bean yesterday so we could squish across the carpet. We had coffee and cereal for breakfast and then set about the clean up. What to do? The first thought was to rent a carpet vac and suck up the water but once we found that the "pad" was nothing more than about 64 sq-ft of 1/4 inch foam, a big sponge, we opted to remove the carpet since there was vinyl under it.

I found the hose that had come loose and reconnected it. We then removed everything that was stored under the bed. Mostly folding chairs and a screen house. Now for a knife. I didn't have a box cutter so I got started with a pocket knife and my rigging knife from sailing days. Wally came over and we spent the morning removing the carpet and pad. When most RV's are built vinyl is put over the base floor with no glue then carpet is placed over the vinyl and stapled around the edges. Then the walls are installed. In our case the walls were over the vinyl but the carpet was added later and stapled close to the wall so it came out with just a lot of grunt work. We didn't damage the vinyl where it would be seen. What we weren't able to remove there would be my fun job when we got home. Oh joy.

Recovering from the great flood
Since most of the water was mopped up we turned the furnace on to help dry out what we couldn't reach. After about an hour things looked pretty good so we started putting things back in storage and getting ready for the afternoon.

Off in the truck with a lunch stop at Sprague's ( scroll down in the link to find Sprague's) for lunch.

After a good lunch we head for Pemaquid Point Light.
Ann, Suzette, Wally

This is Maine, rocky coast and fog.
After climbing the lighthouse and touring the fisherman's museum we made the customary tour of the local gift shop. As we exited the gift shop the weather had cleared and we had a nice view of the coast.
Now it is time to head back to camp so we can feed and walk Logan and see if we can get to Boothbay in time for Ann so make a visit to a yarn shop that is going out of business. We made it. With the yarn purchase made we did a walking tour of Boothbay stopping for ice cream before heading for the lobsterman's co-op for dinner. Now this is eating lobster as it should be. Go to station 1 and order your lobster, clams, and corn on the cob, go the the next station and order and pay for sides and soda. Go the the next station and get your pitcher of beer. Now wait for your name to be called and get your lobster, corn and clams if you ordered any, put on your bib and chow down.

Sounds like loads of fun, dealing with a flooded RV.

Wally lose some weight, or do I just remember him being bigger? Haven't seen him since La's wedding, and you guys know by now my memory is terrible anyway...

Fun like a bad cold.

Yeah he has lost a few pounds. He watches what he eats and has cut back on beer. But he still enjoys a good brew.
