Westmoreland

Tuesday July 10

Another thick day, HHH.

Breakfast was ham, egg and cheese on an english muffin. Then we we headed to the boat launch so we could kayak on the Potomac river. We took a slow paddle down river past the Horsehead cliff's to what is called shark beach where you may find sharks teeth and fossils. On our paddle we saw several Bald Eagles along with Great Blue Heron's and a few other shore birds. It was really neat.

We had no luck sifting for sharks teeth so I took a little swim in the Potomac. You can't swim at the main beach area but there were no signs along shark beach. Our paddle back to the launch area was nice and slow as we looked for more Eagles. As we approached the launch area we could see that there were at least 4 YMCA buses at the pool parking. Hopefully they would be gone by the time we had lunch and returned for an afternoon of swimming.

After lunch we realized that in our rush to go kayaking we forgot to walk Logan, poor thing. So Suzette took care of that chore. As we were starting to get things together for swimming we heard thunder. That means everyone out of the pool for 20 to 30 minutes. A few minutes later more thunder and the out of pool clock is reset for another 20 to 30 minutes.

Oh well we will go to the Westmoreland Berry Farm but it started raining along with thunder and lightning so we just hung out and napped.

Kayaks look fun. I think it'd be a kick in the pants to hit one of the lakes around Hood after a day of patrolling, and just paddle around and fall in occasionally...
